Home charger: What are 'off-peak schedules'?

Modified on Wed, 31 Jul, 2024 at 9:35 AM

The 'off-peak schedule' is part of the UK Smart Charging Regulations for all domestic charge point installations.

The UK Smart Charging Regulations help manage the increase in electricity demand from the transition to electric vehicles.

The regulations ensure charge points have smart functionality, allowing the charging of an electric vehicle when there is less demand on the grid, or when more renewable electricity is available.

All charge points sold and installed within the UK must comply with the 'off-peak schedule'. Companies must then provide consumers with the ability to remove, edit or reinstate these schedules.

The 'off-peak schedule' occurs daily, and allows charging between 11am-4pm and 10pm-8am.
