Home charger: Why doesn't charging start straight away?

Modified on Wed, 31 Jul, 2024 at 10:38 AM

All chargers bought and installed in the UK will comply with the UK Smart Charging Regulations.

The UK Smart Charging Regulations help manage the increase in electricity demand from the transition to electric vehicles.

As part of these regulations, non-public charge points apply a 'randomised delay' to the start of a charging session.

The randomised delay is a random delay period of up to 10 minutes, which delays the start of charging. This is to protect the UK energy grid from power surges and spikes.
